Point of departure

The JZX90 platform is one of the best all-around performers we offer. They are fast, roomy, and look terrific. This 1993 Mark II is powered by a punchy 1JZ-GTE and is equipped with a prized R154 manual transmission. Finished in a Dark Green Mica (6N2), the body is in good shape aside from some minor dings, chips, and scuffs. The Hippo-Sleek aero doesn’t fit as perfectly as the OEM bits, but it’s good enough to pass muster and delivers on the aggressive aesthetic. Subtle upgrades like the LED taillights and rear privacy tint don’t hurt either. Packed with plenty of expensive performance upgrades, and a comfortable, well-optioned five-seat interior, this Mark II does it all. Fresh off a recent service including a new clutch, this stellar sports sedan has been legally imported and is a turn-key ready drive. Collectible, reliable, and rare this factory manual Tourer V is a certified Japanese Classic.
It’s not common that our best-performance cars have plush interiors and a good deal of standard equipment. We really like the upgrades on this example starting with the textured blue and gray JZX100 seats. They lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are soft to the touch and comfortable on long trips. The view of the road ahead is unobstructed and the dashboard lacks any cracks or distortion. An adjustable steering column helps the driver to get comfortable and power windows, locks, and mirrors are standard. The power-folding function no longer works, but then again this sedan is 25 years old. The automatic climate control system is simple to use and blows cold a/c currently. A Kenwood head unit has replaced the original Toyota one and works as advertised. The Tanida steering wheel and TRD shift knob complement the JZX nicely and are in good shape. The door cards, headliner, and carpets are all clean and have been cared for over the years. That is not to say the cabin is perfect as there are some scratches on some of the soft plastics and the tach and speedo will not work properly from time to time.
While admittedly we are fond of the interior the mechanicals are the centerpiece of this sedan. Under the bonnet, a silky smooth 2.5L twin-turbo inline-six is fresh off a recent oil and filter service. The 1J starts up promptly thanks to a new 12v battery and idles nearly vibration-free. Complete with six new coil packs, new spark plugs, and an AEM fuel pump the straight-six is primed and ready to go! Twin downpipes join together into a 3″ custom exhaust that emits a throaty tone. An Airtex intake has also been installed overseas helps the 1J to breathe a bit easier. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. Gear changes are rewarding and the manual lacks any grinding, and rowing through the gears is an absolute blast. We have replaced the clutch and pressure plate which is the most expensive maintenance service, surely saving the next owner some money. Acceleration is incredible and the Toyota gets up to and above legal highway cruising speeds with urgency. Honestly, it pulls like a freight train, and its probably a good thing that the traction control actually works. We couldn’t verify the mileage on the Toyota but it sure feels strong. The rear differential has received a fluid change and the rear wheels deliver the power to the ground. Other power adders include a Greddy front mount intercooler and hard pipe kit to keep the charged air cool. This thing is equally good in the twisties and a set of CST adjustable suspension allows the JZX to corner flat. They also have reduced the fender gap nicely and a set of JIC alloys come wrapped in new tires at all four corners. The brakes are responsive as the front brake pads and rotors have been replaced with new ones and a set of fresh pads was added to the rear axle. The power steering is light yet delivers proper feedback and communication when at the handling limits. A fresh alignment completes the list of maintenance and we are happy to send this thing on its way!
