After receiving incredible reception from the public with their R32 Skyline chassis, Nissan sought to improve upon this already legendary sport coupe by quickly introducing the revised R33 Skyline in 1994. The R33 was a massive step up in quality from the R32, as the exterior and interior were completely revamped to not only look more modern but to suit the drivers needs better as well. Nissans flagship R33, the Skyline GTR, was nothing short of a perfect sports car. With a powerful, twin turbocharged engine, and robust 5 speed AWD drivetrain, the Skyline GTR set a benchmark that was hard to beat. Now that theyre legal in the US, a new generation of buyers can enjoy Skyline ownership, and spread the beauty of JDM culture to stateside streets. While there are plenty of Skylines roaming US roads today, youd be hard pressed to find an R33 as unique as this one. Starting its life as a base-model, naturally aspirated 1995 Skyline sedan, this frisky four door has undergone essentially a full R33 GTR conversion, utilizing the same RB26DETT twin turbocharged engine and AWD drivetrain that we all know and love. The exterior is finished in a beautiful coat of Nissan KN6 gunmetal metallic. The car has been professionally repainted in the original finish, and the color gives off a lovely purplish hue under direct sunlight. Subtle modifications to the exterior accentuate the R33s smooth factory body lines and make this car a truly unique head turner. The front bumper has been replaced with an OEM GTR bumper and grill, and a genuine NISMO 400R front lip adds an aggressive touch to the front fascia of the vehicle. Aftermarket side skirts and a rear bumper lip round off the exterior modification, providing for a clean OEM plus look that isnt over the top. The stock wheels have been replaced with a clean set of OEM six spoke alloys removed from a Z33 Nissan Fairlady, and the modern wheel style looks surprisingly fitting on this classic chassis. A set of aftermarket coilovers (Mines in front, Greddy in the rear) were installed to give the car a perfect lowered stance while also significantly improving handling. The interior is equally as clean and has also been dressed in full GTR fashion. The front and rear seats are OEM GTR spec and are free of any rips, tears, or bolster wear. To the untrained eye, this could have easily been a GTR sedan from the factory, as the fit and finish of all the retrofitted parts are near seamlessly integrated. The only thing missing from the interior is the factory radio, which would have been more of a novelty as Japanese radios are unable to obtain US frequencies. The OEM GTR gauge cluster and triple pod are fully functional, since the cluster was replaced, the displayed 127,392 km are unverified, but chassis condition suggests that actual mileage may not be terribly far off. The clunky OEM steering wheel was replaced with a clean 3 spoke MOMO unit, a period correct complement to this iconic interior. The dash is free of cracks and bubbles and the dash material is in fantastic shape. All buttons and switches work as expected, down to the fully functional automatic climate control. Other modifications to the interior include a turbo timer and genuine NISMO shift knob. Pop the hood, turn the key and the powerhouse RB26DETT springs to life. The swap was certainly performed professionally in Japan, as everything about this car feels like it came this way from the factory. This RB26 has been lightly modified to enhance the driving experience with only a few key modifications. A pair of twin HKS intakes increase airflow to the engine and a full NISMO exhaust paired to Mines downpipes emits a low rumble under acceleration without sounding too over the top. The twin turbochargers spool with ease as the motor sings gracefully to redline. Shifts through the 5 speed AWD transmission are smooth and direct, thanks to an aftermarket short shifter. The factory power level makes this Skyline an absolute joy to drive and, despite its increased curb weight over the R32, the R33 sedan feels extremely balanced and planted while darting its way in and out of corners. For the discerning enthusiast looking for a truly unique JDM icon, this one of a kind GTR sedan is one unsuspecting Skyline sure to turn heads for years to come.
