Boxy styling, a killer turbodiesel, and trusty 4WD are intrinsic to the J78’s personality. The fact that the 70 series was produced for two decades also speaks volumes about the truck, and they are a global automotive icon. Our 1994 SX is finished in Dark Emerald Pearl (6M1) and the body is in good shape aside from some scuffs, scratches, and dings associated with normal use. Offered with a mere 160k verified and documented miles, the turbodiesel 1KZ engine is hardly broken in. Fresh off a recent service, this legally imported and highly collectible seven-seat Japanese Classic looks great and performs even better!
The cabin is expansive and filled with more power options than the old-school cabin you might be expecting. The view of the road ahead is clean and commanding and the tall truck rides above traffic. The dash is in good shape and is laid out simply. It lacks any cracks or distortion that plague these models. Centrally mounted the manual climate control works like a charm and currently blows cold A/C through the cabin. For natural ventilation, a power-retractable sunroof and electric windows work as they should. The power mirrors are prone to failure but these work well as do the power locks. The most helpful upgrade is the touchscreen Clarion head unit. Its modern interface and large screen deliver some visual impact and the sound quality isn’t half bad! The adjustable steering column and soft, cloth seats are other reasons why this rig would make for an ideal daily driver. Said seats lack any major rips, stains, or tears and are soft to the touch. The highly desirable third row is also equipped in this example and can be fully removed or stowed away into the D-pillar for maximum cargo space. The headliner, door cards, and carpet have been well cared for over the years. Even the original owner’s manual and some assorted maintenance records are included in the sale.
The Prado is an old-school SUV. Body-on-frame and powered by a nearly indestructible 1KZ-TE, she is capable as well as reliable. Fresh off an oil and filter service, the 3.0L starts up promptly thanks to a new 12v battery. The engine idles with confidence and sends power to a selective transfercase. The system can utilize 2WD for efficiency or 4WD when necessary. A low gear set is available if the going gets tough, and the electronic HUBlock can be engaged with the press of a button mounted on the dash. The truck is surprisingly civil on the tarmac and can sustain freeway speeds without any cause for concern. The automatic shifts properly, and the power steering is light and easy to articulate. A brake fluid flush improves pedal feel and the OEM alloys are all wrapped in expensive Falken all-terrain tires. The new, meaty rubber should last for tens of thousands of miles to come and deliver premium year-round grip, regardless of the road surface.
