In 1994 the FJZ80 Land Cruiser was the top-of-the-line model in Toyota’s expanding portfolio of trucks and SUVs. This 1994 would make for a wonderful daily driver or overlander and it conveniently shares parts with the stateside version of the rig. Refined in a stunning Jet Black from the original Dark Green, the body is in good shape aside from some normal scuffs, scratches, and dings. LED tailights, factory rainguards, a small lift, and some six-spoke alloys wrapped in new oversized rubber complete the aesthetic and really set this thing off! Touting a luxurious ride and some serious offroad credentials this recently serviced VX Limited is being retailed with a mere 130k documented and verified miles. Packed full of power amenities and updates, this tough but lovable Land Cruiser is a certified Japanese Classic.
The cabin is spacious and well equipped. The truck offers a commanding view of the road ahead and rides above traffic allowing for better than average visibility. The dash does have a few cracks to note, as we see frequently with 80 series Land Cruisers, but they could be a whole lot worse. The dual-zone automatic A/C works well and the heat is piping hot for the winter ahead. If you prefer more natural ventilation this 80 includes the optional power sunroof, power windows, and privacy tint. The seats are upholstered in a gray cloth that is soft to the touch. The material lacks any major imperfections such as major holes, rips, or tears and is in above-average condition. The driver’s seat even has power lumbar support for optimal comfort. Perhaps the best part about this luxury ute is the third row, which is commonly missing at this point in their life. This one has it and it handly folds away for maximum storage capacity and can be removed completely if need be. A wood grain steering wheel and functional Carozzeria audio complete the cabin and deliver an upscale feel. Power mirrors and locks make daily use convenient although the power-folding mirror function is no longer operational, however the mirrors can be easily folded in manually.
These SUVs are not designed like today’s soft-roaders. They are designed with a body-on-frame set up so that they are more capable and longer-lasting. The 1FZ-FE is fresh off an oil and filter service and starts up promptly with the twist of the key. A new 12v battery supplies all the amps necessary to start the 4.5L straight six and should last for years to come. A new set of serpentine belts were also installed and keeps the accessories supplied with power. The straight-six ideles are nearly vibration-free and sends power through an automatic gearbox. Shifts occur seamlessly and a full-time 4WD system underpins the platform. While most folks will keep this 80 on tarmac it is surprisingly capable off road as well. If needed a locking center differential can be engaged and 4WD can be engaged in low. The suspension is able to handle the rigors of daily use and delivers decent ride quality. The brakes are confident and the power steering makes parking easy despite its large size and weight. The Dick Cepek alloys are all wrapped in new Falken all-terrain rubber and look fantastic. They will last for tens of thousands of miles to come and deliver premium all-weather grip.
