Compared to other JDM icons, the R33 Nissan Skyline has always been considered a bit of an underdog. With smoother, more bulbous bodylines than its predecessors, it took enthusiasts a while to adjust to Nissan’s new design language in the mid 1990’s. Now that they’re legal overseas, where Skylines were once considered unobtanium, the R33 is finally getting its time to shine. The R33 GTS25T model in particular is undoubtedly a fan favorite amongst Nissan enthusiasts in the USA. With a stout and powerful RB25DET turbocharged I6 and precise handling dynamics the R33 is one of the best driving classic JDM cars you can still get at a relatively affordable price. This first-year 1993 model was optioned from the factory in desirable “Type M” trim with the factory 5 speed manual transmission, and features a plethora of tasteful exterior and performance modifications sure to stand out on the streets or at the shows! The exterior of this R33 is truly a sight to behold, thanks to a complete color change from AH3 red to Nissan’s iconic Bayside blue, the same blue made famous by the legendary R34 Skyline GTR. The respray was done professionally and is complete down to the engine bay and door jambs. The aftermarket front bumper takes styling cues from the R34 as well and flows fantastic with the R33 body lines. A rear bumper lip and R33 GTR wing round off the list of body modifications on this head turning GTST. The OEM 5 spoke wheels were removed in favor of a staggered set of gunmetal Enkei RPF1 alloys. Measuring 18×9.5 up front and 10.5 in the rear, these wheels fill out the stock body quite nicely and the gunmetal finish is a perfect complement to the Bayside blue paint. Take one look at the interior of this R33 and you’ll instantly notice that the previous owner took great care of this vehicle. The OEM seats are in excellent shape, with no rips, tears, or major bolster wear. The dash is in overall good shape, save for a typical age-related crack and wear around the defrost vents. The interior trim is in good physical condition and all buttons and switches work as expected. The A/C was freshly recharged and blows ice cold! The OEM instrument cluster is fully functional and displays just 122,474 verified km (76k miles!) Those meticulous about interior condition will be pleased to know that interior modifications are few and far between, save for a necessary Turbosmart boost gauge affixed to the A Pillar. Turn the key and the RB25DET engine fires up without hesitation. This inline 6 powerhouse is a great platform for making some seriously fun power, and luckily this particular engine has already been outfitted with some choice upgrades to safely increase horsepower. The stock turbocharger has been removed and rebuilt to high-flow specifications. Paired with an aftermarket intake, front mount intercooler, turbosmart blow off valve and wastegate, this forced induction system is breathing quite nicely and you can definitely feel the increase in performance over stock. Boost comes on strong and the vehicle pulls smoothy to redline with no hesitations or hiccups. Fueling has also been completely handled. An aftermarket fuel rail, 1000cc injectors, and an Aeroflow FPR provide sufficient fueling at the current power level, with plenty of room to grow in the future. All of this has been safely tuned on a Haltech Elite 2000 standalone ECU. The transmission engages all 5 gears smoothly without any grinds or pop outs, and this skyline tears up the corners thanks to a set of Cusco coilovers and Falken tires. We have always felt that the R33 is one of the more daily driveable skylines as overall driving dynamics are surprisingly smooth and refined. With an extensive mod list perfect for future power building goals and exterior styling sure to turn heads on any block, this is one R33 that shouldn’t be passed up!
