Up for sale is an extraordinarily clean example of Nissan’s most groundbreaking sports car, the R32 GTR. In order to understand the significance of the R32, one must understand the state of performance vehicles in 1989. Nobody was making a car like the GTR. The R32 was balanced, yet powerful. Its styling was progressive, yet not over-the-top. The 276hp twin turbocharged RB26DETT engine, paired to a 5 speed AWD transmission propelled the Skyline GTR to record breaking times on track and helped it earn the esteemed nickname “Godzilla”. However, despite all these features and accomplishments, the Nissan Skyline was never available for sale in the USA. For decades, Americans waited until the R32 was finally legal to import under the 25 year rule, and the rest is history. We at J-Spec are no strangers to a clean R32, one look at our inventory and its obvious this car is a personal favorite at the shop. So when this clean, first year example popped up in Japan, we jumped on it. The exterior of this GTR is finished in Nissan’s iconic KH2 Gun Grey Metallic, arguably the best paint code offered on the R32. While the exterior paint is not original, with some instances of paint and body work noticeable, the body of this one looks to have been restored professionally, making this a real showstopping Skyline. The exterior is mostly stock, save for a couple choice modifications. The front bumper has been modified with iconic NISMO N1 Bumper Vents, and the stock 5 spoke wheels have been removed in favor of a set of 6 spoke bronze 18” alloys. Add a set of Tein coilovers to the mix, and the stance on this R32 is aggressive, yet perfectly functional. The interior on this one is extremely clean, and free of many issues that normally plague import cars of this vintage. The seats are still mint, with no crushed bolsters, rips, or burns in the fabric. The dash is free of cracking, although there are signs of the infamous “dash bubble”. All interior buttons and switches work as expected, down to the automatic climate control. The factory steering wheel has been replaced with a blue and black leather MOMO Victoria model, which feels great in the hands. The OEM gauge cluster displays 95,719 km, however this figure is NOT actual. Previous records that were kept on the vehicle suggest the actual chassis mileage to be around 159,000, although many components on the car look to have been restored or replaced. Pop the hood, turn the key, and the healthy RB26DETT fires up without hesitation. Mechanically, the engine is completely stock, all the way down to the factory airbox. The only modification is an HKS catback exhaust, which happily sings as the RB26 accelerates smoothly to redline. Driving this R32 is a blast! Cornering is tight and precise and acceleration is smooth with no hesitations or misfires. For a classic car, this example seems to have been expertly maintained up until the day it left Japanese shores. This vehicle has been thoroughly examined and serviced by our trained technicians and the car has passed state inspection, ready to go to its next owner. Contact us today to get behind the wheel!
