When it comes to discussing JDM legends, most are quick to praise the Nissan Skyline GTR, Toyota Supra, and Mazda RX7 FD for their innovative styling, legendary motors, and unstoppable prowess on the track. One car, however, always seems to get the short end of the stick. The Nissan Z32 300ZX Twin Turbo. While Godzilla and company were busy stealing the spotlight, the “Fairlady Z” worked silently in the background, decimating competition that included icons like the C4 Corvette ZR1 and Porsche 944 turbo. The 300ZX was a fantastic car that has been a cult classic for decades, but never got the recognition it deserved amongst mainstream JDM enthusiasts until recently, when collector grade examples began to pop up on the market. We’d say this particular 1992 model year 300ZX is fit for a collection as well. A factory Twin Turbo example, this Z has clearly been meticulously cared for over the years, as every inch of this car is shockingly flawless for a 29 year old vehicle. This car received a grade 4 at the Japanese auction for a reason. The exterior is finished in a beautiful coat of original Nissan platinum metallic paint (KL0) and looks fantastic on the smooth, futuristic body lines of this Fairlady. Only a few choice modifications have been made to enhance the aesthetics of this Z, and all are tasteful without being too over the top. A set of sleek aftermarket mirrors complement the factory body lines well, the factory tail lights have been replaced with crystal LED units, and clear LED marker lights have been installed all the way around. A set of 19” 3 Piece SSR Professor MS1 wheels look great tucked into the wheel wells and Cusco Street Zero coilovers get rid of any unnecessary wheel gap while also improving handling. This same level of cleanliness extends into the interior, which stands as a lovely testament to the beauty of Japanese bubble market engineering. The full power seats are fully functional and trimmed in a nice grey cloth. The upholstery has no rips, tears or burns, and goes along nicely with the matching dash plastics. The dash is free of any cracking, fading or other damage, and all buttons and switches work as expected, down to the unique digital climate control readout. Look up and you’ll notice the two factory T Tops intact and fully functional, a fun option for cruising in those spring and summer months! There is no AC on this vehicle, but once the T Tops are off you may not even need it! The passenger side of the dash has been modified with a unique 4-gauge suite, displaying voltage, oil temp, water temp, and oil pressure. The oil temp and pressure gauges are non-operational (as shown in the photos) and may be fixed at the buyer’s request. An additional boost gauge is mounted to the right of the gauge cluster and is fully functional! Other interior modifications include a MOMO Race steering wheel, and Impul 300k/h instrument cluster. Because this gauge cluster is aftermarket, the displayed 111,952 km’s are unverified, but the condition of the rest of the car leads us to believe the actual mileage of this Z is quite close to the 69,563 recorded miles (converted). This is honestly one of the most comfortable interiors of any classic JDM car and it would do an excellent job keeping you cozy on long road trips. Turn the key, pop the hood, and let’s check out the powerplant on this Z. This particular example was optioned from the factory with Nissan’s legendary VG30DETT. This twin turbo powerhouse produces an impressive 300hp at the crank and pilots the Z to blisteringly fast speeds in no time. Greddy intakes and an aftermarket twin exit exhaust are the only modifications on this VG30 and it should be set up well for many reliable miles to come. Shifts through the 5 speed manual transmission are smooth and direct, thanks to an aftermarket short throw shifter, and power is delivered to the rear wheels with no issue. A set of Cusco front and rear strut bars improve chassis rigidity while adding a splash of color to the engine and trunk compartments! This would make for a fantastic show car or highway cruiser. If you’re a 90’s JDM nut looking for a underrated collector car to add to your fleet, this Fairlady is Z one for you.
