The NA chassis Mazda Roadster is one of the most important enthusiast cars of all time. It is, arguably, the most fun one can have on a budget, it’s incredibly easy to work on, fuel efficient AND has iconic styling to boot. If you’re into cars, it’s almost guaranteed that at one point in time you’ve wanted a Miata, or at least entertained the idea of adding one to your fleet. With many North American market examples falling victim to rust and corrosion it’s become increasingly difficult to find a clean chassis stateside. This is where the Japanese market comes in. These JDM “Eunos Roadsters” tend to have lower mileage and cleaner bodies than most USDM Miatas and come with some choice JDM specific features. This particular 1992 model year “NA6CE” Eunos Roadster is a desirable model, optioned from the factory in top-of-the-line S Special trim with Mazda’s durable 1.6l 4-cylinder powerplant and 5 speed manual transmission. With only 131,082 original km on the chassis (81,450 verified miles!) this roadster is certainly a rare find and will undoubtedly serve the next owner well for years to come. Finished in an original coast of Mazda’s Brilliant Black (PZ) the exterior on this one is near flawless and is a fantastic example of the brand’s most iconic two-seater. The JDM S Special wing and OEM hardtop, painted in a lovely OEM dark green, really set this one apart from the bunch, accentuating the timeless NA lines. While the soft top is fully intact and functional (shown in the pictures,) we’d argue the hardtop is a “must-have” modification for this chassis and is relatively rare to find in this condition nowadays. The exterior is completely bone stock, with all original equipment present including the iconic BBS basketweave wheels. Wrapped in a good set of Yokohama Neova tires these bright silver wheels look great against the black paintwork and give this car a classic roadster look. The barebones styling of the OEM interior perfectly suits this no-frills roadster and is in excellent shape. The original black cloth upholstery on the seats is free of rips, tears, or burns, and the bolstering still holds the driver in quite well. The dash is clean, with only one small crack visible, and all switches in the center console work as expected, including the original A/C. The Nardi leather steering wheel and shift knob are factory equipment for S Special trim roadsters, and really feel great as you pilot this vehicle down the road. Finding a NA Roadster interior this clean is a rare sight, and we’re sure the next owner will appreciate the original condition of this one. The 1.6l 4 cylinder powerplant fires right up and idles smoothly. You wouldn’t expect 115hp to be so exhilarating, but in this lightweight chassis, it’s the perfect amount. The motor is free of any modification whatsoever, with only basic maintenance keeping this roadster roadworthy! A timing belt replacement sticker displays a relatively recent service, suggesting this vehicle was maintained extremely well during it’s time in Japan. Driving this car is an absolute blast. Take all the fun of a Miata, throw the steering wheel on the right, and you have a recipe for some serious driving pleasure. The motor revs happily to its 7k redline, with no hiccups or hesitations. The 5-speed manual gearbox shifts smoothly through all gears, with no grinds or pop outs, and is undoubtedly the only transmission option that should ever be offered on these vehicles. This car makes quick work of backroad twists and turns, thanks to an OEM set of Bilstein struts and a front strut tower brace. Japanese spec Miata’s are a rare find on US shores, and one in this condition is a true diamond in the rough. Get behind the wheel of this Roadster and experience how less is more when it comes to driving enthusiasm.
